What Makes a Great Website Design?

Website design is a growing industry these days. With more businesses are seeing the value of having their own websites, you can see an increasing number of professionals getting into the business. But what makes a great website design?

While most businesses prefer a custom look, some choose to go with a professional template that is often more affordable. How much you spend will depend on your needs and budget. But what makes a great website design?

First of all, your site should be user-friendly. Too many businesses take the view that if it’s simple to use, it’s worth using. They fail to see the benefits that simplicity offers to the visitor. Having a well-designed, easy-to-use site is one of the biggest factors in a business’ success.

You also want your website design to be fast. If a visitor can’t get to your site quickly, he or she won’t have any time to browse the site and find what they’re looking for. The last thing you want is a group of traffic trying to load your site and you get stuck with a page that’s taking forever to load.

Next, you need to check out what your competition is doing with their website design. Does your site fit in with their style or does it look like something else? Or do you have something to contribute to the theme?

Is your website design practical? Sometimes it’s best to stick with the tried and true, even if it might be a little boring.

Are the colors and graphics good? Can you see everything clearly without squinting? To find out, take a good look at your visitors’ eyes.

As a web developer, I like to have my clients provide me with a full-page mockup of their website, so I can see how the web pages look when actually visited by real users. This test is very important, as it gives me a good idea of whether my design is going to be practical.

How does your website design to meet current web standards? Keep up with web standards and your visitors will not notice the differences.

What is your website design like when viewed from a browser? Your web visitors should always be able to view your site with their default browser settings.

What does a great website design look like? Do you remember the design of your favorite website? In addition to the elements described above, I’m sure you can see the difference between a “good” website design and a “great” website design.

It’s important to understand how website design works. If you’re willing to invest in a good professional design, your visitors will enjoy your site and hopefully return time again.
